Trick or Treat

Last night mom dressed me up in my new dragon outfit.  I do not like to wear hats, but I leave the dragon hood on my head because I like to dress up.  I played in the kitchen with Heather and Brian until it was dark.  Then Heather gave me a pretty little bag and we went out into the night.  Mom and Heather kept saying “Trick”.  I cant say “ck” yet, but I can stay “tri”.  So we practised saying “tri”.

Then the strangest thing happened.  We walked right up to a house I have never been to and knocked on the door.  People came and I was so surprised, I forgot how to say “tri”.  They gave me Play Dough.  Mom says its not for eating, but I am not totally convinced about that.

After that, we went right up to another house and the same thing happened.  Except this time the people gave me a teething biscuit.  Mom let me eat that right up once we got home.  We did this two more times, except those people gave me very shiny packages that Mom will not allow me to have.  I consider this very unfair, but I have already moved on to other matters.

The whole affair was a bit confusing, but I like my dragon outfit and other people seem to like it as well. Mom says I can dress up in it all the time, but we will not go “trick or treating” until next year.  She thinks Halloween should be like leap years and occur only every 4 years.

Thank you Aunt Tivona for getting me such a cute and comfortable costume.  And thanks to Heather for living amongst people who think to have teething biscuits and play dough for treats. What a great world I live in.  Mom says, I am very blessed.

Pictures are forthcoming…

Brusha brusha brusha!

One of my favorite parts of getting ready for bed is brushing my teeth. Now that I have teeth, I need to do this regularly. I have a lot of fun with it. I can pretty much do it myself, though Mama insists on doing it some too. The only bad part is that Mama takes my toothbrush away at the end - that really makes me sad.

Videos of me in sandbox

I had so much fun in the sandbox, I was an easy target for Papa’s videos. He was fascinated by how I was enjoying the sand in my hands - and didn’t even stick it in my mouth. Check out my latest videos on sandbox playing. And thanks to the Oakhurst Community Garden for having such a great baby play space!

This first one features me and also my new friend Benjamin. You can hear a loud mocking bird that was in the bush overhead as we played.

In this second video, I am really getting into it again!

Sandbox!

Oh what sand is! Papa took me to the Oakhurst Community Garden, which has a special play area just for kids! There was a cob house with bells inside, lots of toys, and a sandbox. I think the last time I saw sand was at the beach when I was much smaller. It was interesting, and went right into my mouth.

This time, though, I didn’t put it in my mouth, and instead had a lot of fun playing with it. Papa put me on the edge of the sandbox and I started playing with it with my foot, timidly at first. Then I got so interested I wanted to get down in it.Wow, what fun!

I grabbed the sand and let it fall out of my hand. I grabed it and grabed it. I threw it. I used the shovel to move it, and I watched Benjamin play in the sand too. How exciting!

Play day with Dad

Yesterday was play-day with Papa. We spent the day together while Mama, Robert and a couple helpers tackled major changes in the back yard. We went to the garden, to the hardware store, and played around the house. We had a lot of fun and managed to wear us both out. It also really got me hungry - Mama and Papa could barely keep me fed for the rest of the day. I went to bed early and slept well after all that.

I can’t believe I am already 9 months old!

Watching the Golfers

This week, I went to see the PGA Tour Championship, which is played just a block from my house. The course is the East Lake Countryclub, and there were many good players gathered. Mama got we dressed up in a sweet outfit from Grandma, and I have to admit, I looked good! The weather was fantastic, and Mama and Papa and I walked a long way under the blue, fall sky. We saw lots of people (with most of the guys wearing khaki shorts or pants, like me) walking the course and enjoying the sport.

Unfortunately, they don’t allow cameras or cell phones, so no pictures of me posing with the stars :(. I did get to watch them practicing and teeing off on a number of holes. We didn’t stay till the top ranked folks were playing (I fell asleep before that), but we still saw many good goofers.

Lucky for me, Papa carried me the whole day. He was a pretty good ride. We met some neighbors in the process and had a great day!

Bouncing, bouncing, bouncing!

This weekend, our neighbors had their housewarming party. Mama, Papa, Robert and I went over to hang out. There were LOTS of kids and they ran around and had lots of fun together. I watched the fire, tiki torches, and lights. Also, they have a trampoline. Why didn’t anyone tell me about these things before?! Uncle Robert took me on it and it was great! It is like the tossing that I get plus the jumper in continuous motion. Weeeeeeeee

On getting old and looking back

Recently Papa got pictures developed that he has taken over a long time. I saw pictures of us from when I was much smaller…just 4 months old. Now that I am almost 9 months old, I figure I must be getting old because when I look back on things I did in the past, it seems like a really long time ago. I mean, wow, who can remember that far back!?

Papa says that is when I first started to reach for things…and what I was reaching for was the spring leaves just emerging from the trees in the Rich Mountain wilderness area in North Georgia.

On that trip we also played in the stream - and that was great!!! I got into the water, played with Mama in the water, and took some good naps there.

Eating in new ways

Mama made a fun dinner party happen at the house and cooked up tasty Thai food. She also got out some sticks and everyone used them to eat. I was really impressed! I had never tried that before, so Papa helped me eat with “chopsticks”. The food was yummy and I liked the feel of smooth wood for eating off of.

Sitting up on my own

Just in the last week or so, I started a new first in getting around. Now I can go from lying or crawling to sitting up! It is fun and not too hard. Mama was surprised the first few nights I did it (it was easier to learn in bed than on the ground), since she woke up and I was sitting over her. I find it is a bit easier to get attention in bed that way!

I’ve tried to use the same technique for standing all the way up, but still can’t get my head up by myself.
